I’m pleased to announce the publication of our new edited volume “The Economics and Regulation of Digitalisation: The Case of Türkiye” (Routledge, 2025), which I co-edited with Muzaffer Eroğlu and Matthias Finger.
As an economist focusing on digital markets and regulation, I have been observing Türkiye’s digital transformation with concern. Despite having a Western legal framework and significant potential, Türkiye’s digitalization performance has not met expectations in many areas. Our book critically examines these challenges and opportunities, analyzing how Türkiye combines EU-inspired legislation with distinctly Turkish regulatory solutions.
Along with my co-editors, I contributed to the opening chapter, where we establish the theoretical framework for understanding the co-evolution of technology and institutions in the digital age. Additionally, I co-authored a chapter introducing the “Türkiye Digital Society Index” (TDSI), which provides a comprehensive metric for assessing the digitalization of Turkish society.
The book brings together 14 chapters by leading experts, covering crucial aspects of digitalization:
- Infrastructure development and policy evolution
- E-commerce and digital platform dynamics
- ICT adoption patterns across industries
- Constitutional framework and e-government services
- Privacy, competition, and platform regulation
- FinTech, cryptocurrency, and social media governance
I hope this comprehensive analysis will serve as a valuable resource for academics, policymakers, and practitioners working on digital transformation and regulatory frameworks. The insights offered in this volume may help both Türkiye and comparable emerging economies in developing better policies and regulations for their digital future.
The book is now available for pre-order through Routledge.
